A bountiful season

This summer we have been very fortunate to have a bountiful crop of peaches from our peach trees. We have two peach trees, one in the orchard and the other is self sown on the boundary of our garden. The tree in the orchard produces large fruit whereas the self-sown one produces small fruit. The small fruit are particularly sweet.

In previous years we have had issues with birds and this year we seem to have been able to outsmart them. We managed to harvest the fruit before the birds got stuck in.

I have frozen quite a lot of the fruit but have also made peach and vanilla jam.

Last weekend our elder daughter and her family stayed with us for the weekend and while they were here I made this Oriental chicken and peach salad. It was delicious.

  1. My those look very delicious. I have never had peach and vanilla jam.

  2. What a beautiful crop of peaches! Peaches remind me of France, where I first tasted the fresh fruit straight off the tree. They were so sweet and juicy, a completely different animal from the imported unripe ones you often get in the UK. I’m very glad you managed to harvest yours before the birds got them, they look luscious in that bowl.
