A Visit from the Goon Squad

I enjoy reading but find that even though I am no longer working I still don’t spend as much time reading as I would like to.  I thought I would read more during winter but I seem to spend more time knitting in winter as it is often too hot to knit in summer.

My latest read is A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan, a winner of the Pulitzer Prize.  Every chapter is told from a different character’s point of view.  The story moves backwards and forwards in time and the characters are well defined.  We get to see what makes each character tick. There are many references to music in this novel as Benny is a record producer and the characters are linked to him. This is a story that does not go from A to B in structure but it tells the stories of what happens between A and B.  It is what I would call a “different” book, in its structure.

If you would like to hear what The Book Show had to say about it you can listen to a review or read the transcript here.

If you are someone who buys many books there is a great site called Booko where they compare the prices of the book you want to buy.  I have bought all my recent books from this site, usually from Book Depository, and no postage is charged.
