Tomorrow we head off to Melbourne to watch a tour game of the British and Irish Lions.
They will be playing against my team The Melbourne Rebels. I am really looking forward to the game as I have watched all of the tour games on television. It will be interesting to see what sort of a fight the Rebels can put up against the almost unbeatable might of the British and Irish Lions. (The Brumbies managed to defeat them last week.)
My husband is not a rugby follower, he will watch the occasional match but that is about it. That is a good thing as he will be providing babysitting for our grandchildren for my elder daughter so that she can attend the match with her husband too.
I have loved watching rugby since I was a child growing up in Scotland. I used to go with my siblings to the international matches at Murrayfield in Edinburgh.
I think this is probably how it looked then!
I loved the atmosphere. It was wonderful in winter, when the ground was white with snow, to see the magicial green pitch in the middle. Murrayfield had an electric blanket under the turf!
The stadium is a little different these days!
I know the Scottish team has not been doing well for quite a few years now but I seem to remember when I was a child that they even managed to hold the All Blacks to a draw or maybe I am just dreaming. ( I have just checked the results of games and Scotland did draw in 1964) I might add that Scotland have never beaten the All Blacks! Maybe one day.
We will be watching the Lions match at the AAMI Park in Melbourne.
I hope you have a wonderful time at the rugby. Rugby is probably my favorite sport … it’s great to watch.
I have so many great memories of the fun times I have had when watching rugby matches.
Enjoy the match!
