This wonderful book was the catalogue for the display National Treasures from the great libraries of Australia, held in 2005 at the National Library of Australia, before then becoming a touring exhibition for the following two years.
The reason for the travelling exhibition was to provide as many Australians as possible, the opportunity to view these national treasures from our libraries.
The heritage items included in the catalogue are items that have shaped our history and culture. As well as photos of the items there are descriptions of the important part they played. Some of the items are: the log book of Captain Cook from on board The Endeavour, the first QANTAS logbook, the Mabo papers, Dame Nellie Melba’s personal letters, Shane Gould’s diary, Norman Lindsay’s Magic Pudding drawings and Ned Kelly’s helmet.
This is an entertaining and enlightening read giving the reader a glimpse of just a few of the millions of items held by our main libraries here in Australia.
Sounds wonderful!
Again I was able to find out a little more about Australia’s history. I am not someone who has enjoyed history in the past but now I seem to have found a love for it.
