On the weekend we attended Opera by the Lakes which was held at the lovely homestead, Nyerimilang near Nungurner which is just a very short drive from Metung. The homestead is part of Nyerimilang Park.
The performance was held outside and unfortunately when we arrived the weather was not looking too great.
We parked in the adjacent paddock and made our way to the venue. We were greeted by programme sellers in costume and we also collected our boxed picnic lunches.
No commercial caterers were permitted at the event as all catering was done by local charities so that money could be returned to the community. The lunches were delicious and you could also purchase tea, coffee or wine.
We were fortunate to get good seats near the front.
You can see by the sky that the weather was not looking too good and indeed part of the performance was done in the rain. It certainly didn’t detract from the performance which was excellent. It is great to see young talent getting the opportunity to perform with the more seasoned performers. It was a wonderful afternoon’s entertainment.
If you are ever in the East Gippsland region make sure you keep a look out for performances put on by Gippsland Opera.
That looks really good, I’m glad the weather didn’t put people off.
