Getting in some practice for our next group bike ride.

On Sunday 6th October I am participating in the Around the Bay Ride in Melbourne and I aim to finish the 100km route.  The ride is to raise money for the Smith Family to help disadvantaged children.

We have been trying to build up the number of kms we ride when we do our group rides and last week I went for a morning ride on my own just to get up a few more kms in practice.

I rode on the East Gippsland Rail Trail from Nicholson to Bruthen and back plus a few more kms towards Bairnsdale in order to get up to 50 kms.

The rail trail has had some new signage installed since I last rode on the trail.

At each of the villages and road crossings there is a sign to let you know how far it is to the next point/former station.

At Bruthen, where I stopped for a coffee there is a small park where there are toilets and some information about the local Aboriginal population and significant cultural places.

There is also a bicycle repair station, Ii think that is what you would call it, as there are tools there so you can fix a problem you may have with your bike.

I was lucky to have great weather for the ride with no strong winds.  I think we are all ready for our ride on Sunday.
