World Cup weekend.

on

Saturday and Sunday were full on as far as rugby goes.  There were the four quarter-final matches in the Rugby World Cup. On Saturday we had Australia versus England then New Zealand versus Ireland.  On Sunday it was Wales versus France then Japan versus South Africa.

Needless to say I did very little else on the weekend other than a bike ride on Saturday.  Unfortunately the result of the Wallabies’ game was not what I wanted as Australia was demolished by England.  England were clinical in their execution and certainly deserved to win.

It was sad to see the final international game for David Pocock who has been a power house for the Wallabies.  There were other Wallabies who played their last game but Pocock is one who really stands out as an excellent ambassador for the game.

I wanted Ireland to win their game against the All Blacks but again it was a clinical demolition.  I felt so sad for Rory Best who was playing his last game for Ireland.  The All Blacks continue on their winning way playing terrific rugby.

Sunday brought the remaining two games and I desperately wanted Japan to win  and was happy for either Wales or France to win their game.

Japan certainly tried their best but were totally out muscled by the strong, solid South African team.  Japan have had a wonderful tournament and I am sure there are new followers to rugby as a result of the wonderful entertainment they provided with their running rugby.

The match between France and Wales was an exciting finish.  France had led for the majority of the match and it wasn’t until the dying stage of the game that Wales sealed the win.  France had played with fourteen men as a result of foul play and a red card.  France had managed to keep the lead until the last few minutes and Wales scored and converted. Win to Wales.

None of my teams had a win but a great weekend of rugby.

I even managed to fit in a bit of the Women’s Big Bash League Cricket.
