Our second day started with a breakfast at The Alpine Gate Cafe and then off we headed with our first stop being Pepo Farms which is the only pumpkin seed production site in Australia and it was a really informative stop. We had no idea that the majority of our pumpkin seeds are from China. We all purchased produce from the “pumpkinshop’ and one of our group even bought a cushion!
We could have been riding in the Loire Valley in France.
The sunflowers were beautiful.
Our stop for lunch was Ringer Reef Winery and we had an enjoyable lunch and tasting there. The winery is on a smaller scale than Gapsted but the experience was delightful. We even witnessed a wedding proposal on the lawns in front of the winery.
Our accommodation in Bright was at Bright on Track and we had the remainder of the afternoon and evening to explore Bright. We had our evening meal at the Alpine Hotel and again the meal was delicious.
The following day we did a quick ride to Wondilagong where we visited Nicholson Bros which is an outlet for the apple orchards and the cider they produce. It is also a spot where you can have a coffee/tea and a snack. We made some purchases and then headed back to our accommodation to load up our bikes and then off back to Metung.
I would certainly highly recommend the trip for those who are interested in a leisurely ride, good food and delightful wines all on an excellent surfaced rail trail.
